Acts 1-12 with Tommy Race - Wednesday Nights, 7:00-8:15pm
This class will explore the Book of Acts with the view that the purpose is to display the glory of God as every barrier to the spread of the Gospel is utterly destroyed, and what this means for us as believers today. Frank Stagg suggests that Acts was written, “To demonstrate the freedom of the gospel in its breakthrough of religious, racial, and national barriers," and Acts 1-12 chronicles the earliest days of the Christian Church as it spreads from Jerusalem to all of Judea and Samaria. Beginning with the ascension of Christ in chapter one to the martyrdom of James and the death of Herod in chapter twelve, we will see and discuss the power of the Holy Spirit in its work through the twelve Apostles and the beginning of the work of the Holy Spirit in Paul, who becomes the central character of 13-28. The early church faced persecution and internal disputes ranging from favoritism to whether a Gentile may receive the Holy Spirit and be saved, and yet the Holy Spirit guided the Church through every obstacle just as Christ had promised: "And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." (Matthew 16:18)
Comparative Religions with Pastor Adam Webb - Wednesday Nights, 7:00-8:15pm
This class will explore the different world religions and how they compare with the doctrines of orthodox Christianity. This course is geared towards learning the basics of other religions, discerning the differences between them and biblical Christianity, and how to lovingly witness to those who believe them. This course will survey Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and the occult.
